Pakistan to Challenge India Over Indus Waters Treaty Suspension

Islamabad: Pakistan has announced plans to issue a formal diplomatic notice to India in response to India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, officials confirmed on Friday. This development could escalate tensions over the decades-old water-sharing pact between the two nations.

According to the Kashmir Media Service, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Water Resources, and Law in Pakistan have completed initial consultations on the matter. The diplomatic note is expected to request a detailed explanation from India regarding its decision to suspend the treaty.

Pakistan is also contemplating raising the issue at international platforms, terming India’s actions as “water terrorism.” This move is intended to strengthen Pakistan’s position in the eyes of the global community by asserting legal and moral grounds.

Officials in Islamabad highlighted that Pakistan has adhered to the terms of the Indus Waters Treaty and maintained that they have never breached its provisions. They expressed optimism that India would reconsider its suspension of the treaty in due course.

Further actions will be contingent on formal approval from Pakistan’s federal cabinet. The country reiterated its dedication to upholding international law and resolving disputes through peaceful means.
