Pakistan to Appeal to UN Over Health and Safety of Kashmiri Leader Yasin Malik

Islamabad: Pakistan plans to formally address the United Nations concerning the critical health threats facing Muhammad Yasin Malik, the detained chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, and other Kashmiri leaders, as announced by Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Northern Areas, and Gilgit-Baltistan, Engineer Amir Maqam.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Minister Maqam expressed grave concern regarding the health of Yasin Malik, who has been held in the notorious Tihar Jail for several years. He criticized the Indian government’s denial of medical facilities to Malik and other incarcerated Kashmiri leaders as part of what he described as a deliberate strategy to endanger their lives.

Maqam outlined plans to inform global leaders and international organizations through a letter detailing the dire health conditions of the imprisoned Kashmiri leaders. He highlighted a disturbing history of Kashmiri leaders being martyred in Indian custody, particularly underlining the lack of medical care provided during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The minister urged the international community and human rights organizations to urgently respond to the severe threats to the health and safety of Yasin Malik and others, advocating for their right to receive adequate medical treatment and to be protected from mistreatment and neglect.
