ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that Pakistan is actively implementing a reform agenda aimed at stabilizing the economy and achieving sustainable growth. The statement was made during a meeting with a World Bank delegation led by Country Director Bolormaa Amgaabazar.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister welcomed the delegation and acknowledged the World Bank’s long-standing partnership and its contributions to Pakistan’s socio-economic development. He expressed gratitude for the institution’s ongoing support and emphasized the importance of Pakistan’s constitutional federal structure and provincial autonomy, highlighting the need for cooperation between federal and provincial entities for the country’s development.

During the meeting, the World Bank Country Director presented a report titled “Strengthening Fiscal Federalism in Pakistan,” which analyzes fiscal federalism developments following the 18th Constitutional Amendment and the 7th National Finance Commission Award. The report addresses revenue generation, public expenditure, federal-provincial fiscal relations, and resource utilization, offering policy recommendations to enhance fiscal discipline and service delivery.

Prime Minister Sharif appreciated the World Bank’s analysis and comparative review, noting its relevance to informed policymaking. He announced the formation of a high-level committee to review the report’s recommendations in detail, involving consultations with relevant stakeholders, including provincial representatives, to develop practical proposals aligned with Pakistan’s constitutional framework.
