Islamabad: On the eve of World Food Day, the President of Pakistan emphasized the critical need for unity and cooperation in addressing food insecurity and malnutrition, aligning with this year’s theme, “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future.”
Since 1979, World Food Day has served as a reminder of the global mission to eradicate hunger and ensure access to nutritious food for all. In Pakistan, where agriculture plays a pivotal role in the economy, these issues remain significant challenges due to climate impacts, including floods and elevated food prices.
The Government of Pakistan, through the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, is collaborating with provincial bodies, international organizations, and private entities. The focus is on promoting climate-smart agricultural practices, enhancing water and land management, and strengthening food supply chains. Efforts are also underway to implement social protection measures for vulnerable populations.
Relief for flood-affected families, initiatives to reduce food waste, and programs to boost agricultural productivity are central to these efforts. The president underscored the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring that no child goes to bed hungry.
Pakistan remains committed to collaborating with all stakeholders to secure a future where every family has access to safe, nutritious, and affordable food. The message was clear: food security is a shared responsibility, crucial for building a better future for the nation.
