ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, engaged in pivotal discussions with British High Commissioner Jane Marriott and Acting US Ambassador Natalie A. Baker in Islamabad on Sunday, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing security cooperation.
The meetings centered on key topics, including regional security, counter-narcotics efforts, and combatting human trafficking. These discussions come as Pakistan seeks to bolster international collaboration to address pressing security challenges.
During the meeting with the British High Commissioner, Naqvi expressed gratitude for the resumption of air operations between Pakistan and the United Kingdom after a five-year hiatus. Marriott highlighted the upcoming visit of the Director General of the British National Crime Agency to Pakistan, during which crucial Memorandums of Understanding in immigration and counter-narcotics will be signed.
Naqvi emphasized the importance of projects like the Center of Excellence, supported by the British High Commission, in enhancing the capacity of Pakistani institutions. He noted that the establishment of the Center would further cement bilateral cooperation on mutual legal assistance and extradition matters.
In discussions with the Acting US Ambassador, Naqvi reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to collaborating with the international community to eliminate terrorism. Baker commended Pakistan’s efforts in combating terrorism and extremism, assuring continued US cooperation in security and counter-terrorism initiatives.
Both the British High Commissioner and the Acting US Ambassador praised the recent anti-narcotics operation carried out by the Pakistan Navy, underscoring the effectiveness of Pakistan’s efforts in this area.
