Pakistan Steps Up Efforts for a Drug-Free Society, Minister Attaullah Tarar Reports to National Assembly

Islamabad: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, addressing the National Assembly during Question Hour, detailed the government’s comprehensive strategy to combat narcotics and ensure a drug-free society in Pakistan. This includes regular operations by the Anti-Narcotics Force, collaborative international efforts, and significant public awareness campaigns.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister Tarar emphasized the collaborative raids conducted against drug traffickers and called for vigilant oversight by parents and educational institutions to safeguard children from drug exposure. He highlighted the government’s initiative to increase awareness through media, with allocated funds for films and dramas designed to educate the public about the dangers of drug use.

Furthermore, Tarar outlined Pakistan’s international cooperation on this front, mentioning active bilateral engagements and numerous Memorandums of Understanding with countries like the USA, UK, Saudi Arabia, and others aimed at curbing narcotics trafficking.

The session also covered various other national issues, including advancements in public transport and energy sectors, with Tarar noting the upcoming smart city app “My Islamabad” and measures to reduce electricity tariffs, including renegotiations with independent power producers.

In a separate context, the National Assembly passed a resolution reaffirming Pakistan’s support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination, marking the 77th anniversary of the Indian invasion of Kashmir.

The House is scheduled to reconvene on Monday.
