Pakistan Signs Convention to Establish International Mediation Organization

Hong Kong: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar signed the Convention on the establishment of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed) on behalf of Pakistan. The signing took place in Hong Kong, part of China’s Special Administrative Region.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed appreciation for China’s leadership in developing and leading efforts to establish IOMed. He emphasized the organization’s aim to foster a global community and highlighted its role in promoting international peace, stability, and development.

Senator Dar noted IOMed’s potential to create a more inclusive and equitable world. As a founding member, Pakistan aims to play an active role in the organization’s mission. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to promoting peace, security, and development through adherence to the UN Charter and international law.

The Deputy Prime Minister also addressed India’s actions, citing violations of international law and the Indus Waters Treaty. He underscored regional conflicts such as the occupation of Jammu and Kashmir and the Palestinian Territories, calling for solutions aligned with UN Security Council resolutions.

IOMed was conceived during the 2nd Belt and Road Forum in Beijing in 2019. China initiated discussions in 2021, inviting Pakistan to join as a founding member. The organization is open to all countries and aims to promote dialogue and trust while respecting each nation’s sovereignty and interests.
