Pakistan Seeks to Strengthen Energy Ties with China, Eyes Coal Sector Collaboration


Xi An: In a significant move to bolster energy cooperation, Pakistan’s Minister of Petroleum, Dr. Musadik Malik, visited the Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd. in Shaanxi province today. The visit underscores the ongoing commitment between Pakistan and China to enhance their partnership in the fields of energy, petrochemicals, and sustainable industrial development.



According to Press Information Department, Dr. Malik was warmly received by Mr. Zhao Futang, General Manager of Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Group, and other senior executives. The visit included a comprehensive briefing on the company’s extensive operations, which span coal mining, petrochemical processing, and clean energy technology advancements. Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group is recognized as one of China’s leading state-owned enterprises with significant contributions to the coal, chemicals, and new energy sectors.



The discussions during the visit focused on potential partnerships, particularly exploring coal-to-chemicals technology and the possibility of joint ventures. Representatives from the Thar Coal Board, Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company, and the Energy Department of Sindh were also present, highlighting the broad-based interest in expanding bilateral relations in these critical areas.
