Pakistan Seeks to Strengthen Defense Ties with Iraq


Islamabad, Pakistan’s Minister for Defence and Defence Production, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, met with the Iraqi Ambassador to Pakistan, H.E. Mr. Hamid Abbas Lafta, to discuss enhancing and expanding defense cooperation between the two nations. The meeting focused on sharing expertise and building the capacities of their armed forces, with Pakistan expressing strong support for Iraq’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.



According to Press Information Department, Minister Asif highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to its relationship with Iraq, emphasizing the desire to expand cooperation in various fields, particularly in defense. He noted that Pakistan has developed state-of-the-art training facilities and infrastructure for its Armed Forces, which are utilized by numerous foreign countries, especially for counter-terrorism training.



The Minister encouraged Ambassador Lafta to increase Iraq’s engagement with Pakistan’s training programs. In response, Ambassador Lafta reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Pakistan, particularly in the defense sector. He conveyed the Iraqi government and people’s eagerness to work closely with Pakistan to enhance mutual interests and security cooperation.
