Pakistan Seeks to Deepen Strategic Ties with China


Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized the need for bolstered strategic cooperation with China, labeling the relationship as critically important for mutual benefits amid changing global dynamics.



According to Press Information Department, these remarks were made during a meeting with the visiting Commander of the Ground Forces of the People’s Liberation Army of China, General Li Qiaoming, at Aiwan-e-Sadr. The discussion highlighted the long-standing friendship between Pakistan and China, which spans over seven decades, and the ongoing commitment to enhance military, defense cooperation, and cultural exchanges.



President Zardari also recognized the importance of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, a project he initiated during his previous tenure, as a cornerstone of bilateral economic relations. He mentioned efforts to promote the Chinese language in Pakistan to strengthen people-to-people ties. Additionally, General Li condemned recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan and expressed solidarity, reaffirming the unbreakable friendship between the two nations.



The meeting concluded with President Zardari awarding General Li the Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military) in recognition of his efforts to advance defense cooperation between Pakistan and China, further cementing the strategic partnership.
