Karachi, In an effort to enhance bilateral cooperation and create employment opportunities abroad for its skilled workforce, Pakistan, represented by the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, Mr. Jawad Sohrab Malik, has initiated talks with Greece. This development took place during a meeting with Mr. Adonis Georgiadis, the Greek Minister of Labor and Social Security, at the Global Labor Market Conference (GLMC) in Riyadh.
According to Ministry of Overseas Pakistani and Human Resource Development, the meeting between SAPM Malik and Minister Georgiadis was centered on fostering collaboration for skilled migration from Pakistan to Greece. The discussions highlighted the potential benefits of a GovernmenttoGovernment (G2G) Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), focusing on the migration of Pakistani manpower to meet Greece’s labor demands, particularly in the construction industry.
During the dialogue, it was noted that Greece is currently in need of approximately 500,000 skilled workers in its construction sector. SAPM Malik seized the opportunity to outline Pakistan’s readiness and priority in exporting skilled labor to countries like Greece, which are experiencing a shortage of workforce. He briefed the Greek delegation on the availability of skilled Pakistani workers and the government’s commitment to exporting this manpower.
The proposed collaboration aims to create a mutually beneficial scenario, where Pakistan can provide the necessary skilled labor to meet Greece’s growing demand, thus contributing positively to both nations’ economies. This initiative is in line with Pakistan’s vision of actively participating in the global workforce market and strengthening its diplomatic and economic ties with other countries.
The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development expressed its commitment to building partnerships that promote international cooperation. This includes facilitating the exchange of expertise and skills between nations, thereby enhancing Pakistan’s role in the global labor market.
