Moscow: In a historic move, the first-ever Pakistan-Russia Trade and Investment Forum was held in Moscow, heralding a new phase of economic collaboration between the two nations. This landmark event, taking place for the first time in their 76-year relationship, saw the signing of multiple memorandums of understanding (MOUs) aimed at boosting trade and investment ties.
According to Press Information Department, the forum was led by Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Board of Investment, Privatization and Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan. The event attracted CEOs from over 70 Pakistani companies and approximately 100 Russian firms, emphasizing the significant interest from both sides in strengthening economic partnerships.
During the forum, discussions between Abdul Aleem Khan and Platonov Vladimir, President of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce, led to agreements on enhancing cooperation in various sectors including IT technology, safe city projects, and agricultural produce, alongside textiles and leather goods. The two countries agreed to increase import and export activities, sharing expertise and resources to mutual benefit.
Furthermore, Abdul Aleem Khan met with Russia’s Deputy Minister for Trade, Alexey Gruzdev, and Russian Federation Advisor, Evgeny Fidchuk, to finalize the MOUs, which will particularly focus on the food sector. Khan described the meetings as successful, highlighting the potential for joint ventures that could significantly boost bilateral business activities.
In a gesture of goodwill and continued partnership, Khan extended an invitation to Russian delegates to attend the upcoming Textile Expo in Pakistan, offering comprehensive hospitality arrangements to ensure a fruitful visit.
The forum not only served as a platform for immediate business agreements but also set the stage for future collaborations in high-tech industries, minerals, and information technology. Distinguished participants from both countries, including Senators from Pakistan and prominent Russian business leaders, underscored the forum’s importance in fostering long-term economic and cultural ties.
This initiative represents a strategic pivot towards enhancing Pakistan’s international trade relationships, with the Moscow Chamber of Commerce playing a pivotal role in bridging the gap between Pakistani and Russian business communities. The successful forum is expected to be a precursor to more robust economic engagements and cultural exchanges between the two nations in the coming years.
