Islamabad: The Pakistan-Romania Parliamentary Friendship Group (PFG) held its inaugural meeting today, aiming to bolster bilateral relations through enhanced cooperation in various sectors including trade, technology, and manpower. The session, attended by multiple Members of the National Assembly, featured comprehensive briefings from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Commerce.
According to National Assembly of Pakistan, the briefing session was chaired by Mr. Danyal Chaudhary and attended by notable MNAs including Ms. Zahra Wadood Fatemi, Mr. Aqeel Malik, and Ms. Nikhat Shakeel Khan, among others. The agenda focused heavily on economic ties, the exchange of parliamentary delegations, technology transfer, and sports collaboration.
Muhammad Arshad Jan Pathan, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Romania, participated virtually, detailing the current state of diplomatic relations and exploring regional initiatives. His presentation covered extensive ground, touching on trade and investment, education, tourism, culture, health, sports, and people-to-people exchanges, alongside a review of existing bilateral agreements and trade statistics.
The commerce ministry elaborated on Pakistan and Romania’s bilateral trade and economic cooperation, highlighting significant investment opportunities. The discussion also underscored Pakistan’s skilled workforce in crucial sectors such as IT and healthcare, noting the potential to meet Romania’s demand for skilled labor.
Mr. Danyal Chaudhary, convener of the PFG, emphasized the importance of robust parliamentary ties and economic collaboration under the Pakistan-Romania Bilateral Political Consultations framework. He advocated for using these platforms to unlock new avenues for economic growth and bilateral cooperation.
The meeting concluded with a strong reiteration of Pakistan’s commitment to fostering stronger ties with Romania. The PFG members called for regular interactions between the Pak-Romania Business Forum, B2B sessions, and frequent engagements between the Chambers of Commerce in both countries to further this goal.
