Islamabad, The Federal Government of Pakistan has once again expressed its unwavering commitment to the complete eradication of polio, emphasizing the importance of sustained support and enhanced international collaboration to achieve this critical public health goal. In a virtual address during a special session on polio eradication held alongside the 2024 UNICEF Executive Board, Federal Secretary for Health Iftikhar Ali Shallwani shared insights into the nation’s ongoing efforts and progress in the fight against polio.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Secretary Shallwani reported a notable increase in vaccination coverage across Pakistan, bringing the country significantly closer to its target of zero polio cases. He underscored the importance of the collaborative efforts between the country’s Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) and the Polio Eradication Programme, which have been instrumental in advancing the reach of life-saving vaccines to children in all regions.
The Health Secretary’s remarks reflect Pakistan’s persistent endeavors to overcome the challenges posed by polio, a debilitating disease that continues to threaten child health in a few remaining areas globally. The emphasis on stronger global partnerships underscores the critical need for international cooperation and support in eradicating polio, not only in Pakistan but worldwide.
