Pakistan Rebuts India’s Claims of ‘Illegal Nuclear Activities’

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has firmly rejected allegations made by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs regarding so-called “clandestine or illegal nuclear activities,” describing them as unfounded and part of a disinformation campaign by New Delhi. This response came from Tahir Andrabi, the Spokesperson of Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a media interaction.

The allegations were linked to comments by U.S. President Donald Trump on nuclear testing, which India attempted to associate with Pakistan’s nuclear history. Andrabi accused India of distorting facts and misrepresenting the U.S. President’s statements, noting that the U.S. had already clarified its position on the matter.

Pakistan’s Spokesperson emphasized that the country conducted its last nuclear tests in May 1998 and has consistently supported United Nations General Assembly resolutions calling for a comprehensive ban on nuclear testing. He contrasted this with India’s abstention from such resolutions, suggesting ambiguity in India’s stance on nuclear testing.

Andrabi underscored that Pakistan’s nuclear program is managed under a robust command and control structure, adhering to comprehensive export controls and maintaining compliance with the global non-proliferation regime. He characterized the allegations from India as part of a disinformation strategy to deflect attention from India’s own nuclear safety issues.

Highlighting concerns about India’s nuclear safety record, Andrabi referenced incidents involving the theft and trafficking of sensitive nuclear materials in India, which he said exposed weaknesses in India’s ability to secure its facilities. He cited a recent incident involving radioactive equipment from the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre being found for sale, which he argued points to a thriving black market for nuclear materials in India.

The Spokesperson called on the international community to take serious note of these security lapses, which he warned pose significant threats to both regional and global stability.
