Islamabad: Pakistan has reiterated its demand for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza and emphasized the necessity for unhindered humanitarian assistance to alleviate the hardships faced by the people of Gaza.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Pakistan’s Foreign Office issued a statement condemning Israel’s latest attempt to dismantle the operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). The statement described Israel’s actions as a violation of international law and the UN Charter, highlighting that preventing UNRWA from performing its essential functions is part of a systematic campaign to deny humanitarian aid to Palestinians.
The Foreign Office has urged the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to hold Israel accountable for its actions and to ensure that UNRWA can operate without impediment. This call references UN General Assembly Resolution 302 (IV) of 1949, which underpins the agency’s mandate.
Additionally, the Foreign Office stressed the need for global intervention to halt what it described as Israel’s genocidal campaign against Palestinians in Gaza. It also reaffirmed that sustainable peace in the region requires the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of a viable, secure, contiguous, and sovereign State of Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
