Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to UN Charter on 80th Anniversary

Islamabad: On the 80th anniversary of the United Nations Charter, Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to multilateralism, emphasizing the ongoing importance of the United Nations in tackling global challenges. The statement was made in a message from Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister on United Nations Day 2025.

Pakistan’s foreign policy, according to the statement, is aligned with the principles of the UN Charter, including sovereign equality, non-interference, self-determination, and peaceful dispute resolution. The country has a history of prioritizing diplomacy over confrontation, reflecting its dedication to these ideals.

Since 1960, Pakistan has been a significant contributor to UN peacekeeping operations and hosts the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan. However, the statement also highlighted ongoing issues where international law and self-determination are being violated, particularly in regions like Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine.

As a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2025-26 term, Pakistan expressed its commitment to fostering a peaceful and just world. The country’s recent leadership role in the Security Council was cited as evidence of its ability to build consensus and promote UN principles.

On this United Nations Day, Pakistan has pledged to collaborate with other UN Member States to uphold the UN Charter’s promise of peace, development, and human dignity.
