ISLAMABAD: On the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, Pakistan expressed solidarity with torture victims across the globe and reinforced its commitment to eliminating torture and upholding human dignity.
Pakistan emphasized that Islam’s core values, which include justice, mercy, and compassion, are fundamentally incompatible with acts of torture or any form of cruel treatment. The country reiterated its dedication to these values and its international responsibilities by focusing on eradicating torture and enhancing protections for all individuals.
The government highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen legal reforms, institutional safeguards, and oversight mechanisms to ensure accountability and uphold the rule of law. Initiatives are also in place to offer medical, legal, and psycho-social support to victims of torture.
Concerns were raised by Pakistan regarding the persistent and systematic use of torture in territories under foreign occupation. Specifically, the statement pointed to the people of the Occupied Palestinian Territory and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, who are reportedly subjected to severe forms of torture and degrading treatment by occupying forces.
On this occasion, Pakistan called on the international community to denounce these actions and hold the responsible parties accountable, urging efforts to alleviate the suffering of victims of torture and oppression.
