Islamabad: Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja has affirmed the government’s commitment to the Digital Pakistan vision during her keynote address at the Digital Nation Summit. The summit, a collaboration between the GSMA and the Ministry of IT and Telecom, hosted significant discussions on advancing Pakistan’s digital landscape.
According to Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, the summit addressed the pivotal role of the telecom industry in the nation’s economic uplift and highlighted the ongoing efforts to bridge the digital divide between rural and urban areas. Minister Khawaja outlined key achievements under the Prime Minister’s vision for digitalization, including a remarkable growth in teledensity and broadband subscribers, and a record surge in IT exports, reaching $3.223 billion during FY 2023-24.
The summit also focused on national IT policies that support ease of doing business and provide tax incentives to boost the sector. Keynote speakers, including Julian Gorman, Head of APAC at GSMA, emphasized the need for a whole-of-government approach to harness infrastructure, innovation, data governance, security, and human capital to realize Pakistan’s digital aspirations.
