Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Combat Drug Abuse on International Day


Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued a message underscoring Pakistan’s dedication to combating drug abuse and illicit trafficking on the eve of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed annually on June 26. The Prime Minister emphasized the global need for collaborative international cooperation in addressing this challenge.



The theme for the 2025 observance, “Breaking the Chain: Prevention and Recovery for All,” highlights the importance of eradicating drug abuse by tackling all steps that facilitate drug networks. This theme reinforces the understanding that drug abuse is a worldwide issue that requires a united response.



The Government of Pakistan, through the Anti-Narcotics Force, is actively implementing stringent measures to address drug abuse. The Prime Minister stressed the necessity of collective resolve from individuals, communities, and society to eliminate drug abuse and break the cycle of organized crime.



The message also emphasized the need for awareness among youth about the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of prevention. Effective rehabilitation and recovery services require a collaborative strategy involving government institutions, civil society, and affected households.



Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the international fight against drug abuse, applauding the dedication and sacrifices of law enforcement agencies in their efforts to achieve a narcotics-free nation.
