Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Anti-Torture Efforts on International Day

Islamabad: Pakistan expressed deep concern over the persistent use of torture in occupied territories and reaffirmed its support for torture victims worldwide, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The announcement coincides with the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. The statement highlighted the plight of individuals in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, who continue to face severe forms of torture and degrading treatment.

Pakistan called upon the global community to hold the responsible occupying powers accountable and assist in alleviating the suffering of torture victims.

The Foreign Office emphasized that Islam regards the protection of human dignity as paramount, deeming any form of torture or inhumane treatment contrary to Islamic principles of justice and compassion.

According to the Ministry, Pakistan is committed to eliminating torture through legal reforms and institutional safeguards. The country has also strengthened oversight mechanisms to ensure accountability and uphold the rule of law.

Additionally, steps are being taken to provide comprehensive support to torture victims, including medical, legal, and psycho-social assistance.
