Islamabad: Pakistan joined the global community in observing World Environment Day 2025, marking a crucial moment to spotlight the pressing environmental challenges worldwide and to amplify efforts to protect the planet.
The event, celebrated under the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution,” resonates with the country’s ongoing initiatives to tackle the issue of plastic waste. As a nation significantly impacted by climate change, Pakistan recognizes the importance of global efforts addressing climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.
In April 2025, the Pakistani government unveiled the ‘National Action Roadmap to Reduce Plastic Pollution,’ which outlines a strategic approach to curbing plastic waste. This plan emphasizes the reduction of mismanaged waste and the promotion of circularity to mitigate the environmental impact of plastic.
Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to addressing these environmental challenges, emphasizing the country’s role in safeguarding the planet for future generations. This commitment aligns with the global theme, underscoring the urgency of global cooperation in combating plastic pollution on land, in rivers, and across oceans.
