Pakistan Railways to Procure 230 Passenger Coaches and 820 High Capacity Wagons

Islamabad, Pakistan Railways has announced a comprehensive plan to enhance its fleet by acquiring 230 passenger coaches and 820 high capacity wagons, as part of its initiative under the Public Sector Development Programme. This development is aimed at improving the rail service’s capacity and efficiency across the country.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the procurement process has already seen the acquisition of 46 completely-built-up passenger coaches. The plan includes the domestic manufacturing of the remaining 184 coaches. The initiative is not limited to expanding the fleet but also extends to significant upgrades of the railway’s infrastructure. This includes the revamping of the track and signaling system from Karachi to Peshawar on the Main Line-I and the doubling of the track between Lahore and Peshawar.

These efforts are part of a broader strategy to modernize Pakistan Railways and enhance its operational capabilities. By increasing the number of passenger coaches and high capacity wagons, the railway aims to meet the growing demand for rail transport in the country. Furthermore, the infrastructure improvements are expected to significantly boost the efficiency and safety of rail travel.

The projects, as detailed by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, reflect the government’s commitment to upgrading the country’s transportation infrastructure. These developments are poised to play a critical role in facilitating economic growth and improving the connectivity across various regions of Pakistan.
