Lahore: Pakistan Railways is undergoing a comprehensive transformation aimed at modernizing its infrastructure and services, Railways Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi announced today. The initiative focuses on enhancing safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort, with significant projects planned across the country.
According to Radio Pakistan, Abbasi highlighted a recent agreement between Pakistan Railways and the Punjab government as a pivotal step in improving services within the province. Among the projects, the Rohri-Karachi railway track is set for an upgrade by September, with similar enhancements planned nationwide to bolster rail infrastructure and ensure safer operations.
The minister also emphasized ongoing efforts to digitalize the railway system, a move intended to streamline services and enhance transparency. On the financial front, Abbasi detailed strategies to increase revenue, including a goal to derive 80 percent of earnings from freight operations.
In addition to these reforms, Abbasi announced the launch of the Awam Express, which will begin operations from Peshawar on the 30th of next month, signifying a continued commitment to expanding and modernizing Pakistan’s rail services.
