Pakistan Prosecution Forum Advances Criminal Justice Reforms in Lahore Meeting

Lahore, The Punjab Public Prosecution Department hosted the 17th meeting of the Pakistan Prosecution Forum (PPF) which focused on advancing legislative and policy reforms in Pakistan’s criminal justice system. This key meeting was supported by the U.S. Embassy’s Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement and facilitated by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

According to United Nations Pakistan, the forum saw participation from senior officials and stakeholders from various provinces, including Punjab, who discussed shared challenges and strategies for enhancing the rule of law. The meeting, featuring the Honorable Justice (R) Khalil Ur Rehman Ramday as the chief guest, aimed to foster a fair and equitable justice system, addressing gender-specific needs and advocating for essential prosecution reforms.

The gathering also highlighted Punjab’s recent initiatives like the prosecution capacity building project and the integration of advanced management systems in police training and prison management, funded by the U.S. Embassy and implemented by the UNODC. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to improve the efficiency of the criminal justice system across Pakistan, with a focus on reducing the number of under-trial detainees and promoting fair investigations and trials.
