Pakistan Proposes Climate Resilience Partnership with Thailand

Islamabad: In a strategic move to bolster climate resilience, Pakistan has extended an offer to Thailand to partner in securing funding for climate resilience projects. This proposal was discussed during the 5th Board of Trustees meeting of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) in Thailand, attended by a delegation from Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the NDMA delegation, led by Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, participated actively in discussions focused on enhancing regional disaster management capabilities. The delegation also visited the Thai Military Department of Development and Disaster Relief Training Center and engaged with the Thai Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department at their Emergency Operation Center.

During these engagements, Chairman Malik highlighted the potential for Pakistan and Thailand to collaborate on building partnerships with donors and financial institutions. These efforts aim to secure essential resources for projects that enhance climate resilience in both nations. Additionally, he proposed the development of joint simulation exercises tailored specifically for Search and Rescue teams, aiming to strengthen operational readiness and disaster response efficacy.

The proposed partnership reflects a proactive approach to tackling the challenges posed by climate change through international cooperation and resource sharing.
