Pakistan Prioritizes IT Sector Expansion to Boost Exports, Says PM Sharif


Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced significant government efforts to enhance Pakistan’s IT exports as a major economic initiative. This statement came during a meeting with a four-member delegation from the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA), led by Julian Gorman, Head of Asia Pacific, which took place in Islamabad today.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Prime Minister detailed the government’s record allocation in this fiscal year’s budget for the development of the IT and Telecom sectors. He emphasized the government’s vision to equip every citizen with a smartphone, ensure broadband internet access in every home, and implement QR code facilities in all businesses.



Prime Minister Sharif highlighted ongoing initiatives focused on improving internet access for the average Pakistani, upgrading digital infrastructure, and expanding e-governance. The government is also emphasizing vocational training in digital skills for the youth and fostering innovation and business promotion within the sector.



An action plan for reforms and digitization in the Information Technology sector is currently being implemented, with GSMA playing a critical role in these digitization efforts. The GSMA delegation briefed the Prime Minister on their contributions to promoting telecom services both in Pakistan and globally, underscoring the collaborative effort to advance Pakistan’s digital landscape.
