Pakistan President Calls for Strengthened Navy to Safeguard Geo-Economic Interests, Welcomes Two New Ships


Karachi: President Asif Ali Zardari has advocated for a stronger Pakistan Navy to protect the nation’s geo-economic interests and maritime boundaries. During a ceremony at the PN Dockyard, he celebrated the addition of two new naval ships, the MILGEM Class Corvette PNS Babur and the Offshore Patrol Vessel PNS Hunain, which are poised to enhance the Navy’s operational capabilities.



According to Press Information Department, the President addressed the significance of these new assets in bolstering Pakistan’s maritime defense during the induction ceremony, attended by national defense and political leaders, including Deputy Minister of National Defence Turkiye, Mr Bilal Burdali, and Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf. The ships, built in Turkey and Romania, respectively, mark a pivotal advancement in the Navy’s readiness to address both traditional and asymmetric threats.



The President emphasized the Navy’s crucial role in ensuring maritime security and economic stability by protecting shipping lanes. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to defending its sovereignty and highlighted the strategic importance of the blue economy. The ceremony also served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by Pakistani forces and citizens, particularly on Defence and Martyrs’ Day. President Zardari extended his gratitude towards international partners and the shipbuilding teams for their efforts in enhancing Pakistan’s naval strength.



The event underscores Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to maintain a robust defense posture amid evolving maritime challenges, ensuring the security of its waters and economic interests.
