Pakistan President Calls for National Mental Health Policy and Improved Support Systems

Islamabad, President Dr. Arif Alvi of Pakistan has called for the establishment of a national mental health policy to more effectively address mental health issues within the country. He chaired a follow-up meeting in Islamabad today, focusing on the nation’s mental health challenges and the need for an integrated approach to address them.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, President Alvi highlighted the necessity for a cohesive strategy encompassing all mental health-related programs and initiatives. During the meeting, the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination presented details about the National Mental Health App ‘Humraaz’, which has received over 240,000 calls since its launch in April 2023.

The President commended the success of the ‘Humraaz’ app, which provides essential mental health assistance and counseling services to people in need. He stressed the importance of enhancing the app’s effectiveness and strengthening the overall mental health support system in Pakistan.

This initiative represents a significant step towards addressing mental health concerns in Pakistan, recognizing the importance of mental well-being as a vital component of public health.
