Pakistan Praises Turkiye and Qatar for Mediation Efforts in Islamabad-Kabul Tensions

Islamabad: Pakistan has expressed deep appreciation for the mediation efforts by Turkiye and Qatar in addressing its differences with Afghanistan, particularly on the issue of terrorism. The Foreign Office spokesperson emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to resolving bilateral issues through dialogue but underscored the need for Afghanistan to address terrorism concerns emanating from its soil.

The spokesperson highlighted a significant increase in terrorist attacks from Afghanistan since the Taliban’s rise to power. Despite suffering casualties, Pakistan has refrained from retaliation and instead sought to engage Afghanistan positively through trade concessions and humanitarian aid.

Pakistan remains firm in its stance against groups like the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), which it views as enemies. It has called for concrete actions from the Afghan regime against these groups, rejecting attempts by the Taliban to label them as refugees.

While Pakistan has shown willingness to engage in talks mediated by Turkiye and Qatar, the spokesperson noted that the Taliban regime’s focus on prolonging ceasefires, without addressing terrorism, has been a point of contention in recent discussions.

Pakistan has demanded that the Taliban hand over terrorists sheltered on Afghan soil, citing concerns about the Afghan regime’s intent rather than its capability. The spokesperson also addressed attempts to instigate Pashtoon nationalism within Pakistan, affirming the unity and clarity among the Pakistani populace on the Afghan policy.

The ongoing dialogue, facilitated by Turkiye and Qatar, underscores Pakistan’s commitment to peace and diplomacy, while also standing firm in safeguarding its territory and people against terrorism.
