Muzaffarabad, Caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, has reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri people in their struggle for the right to self-determination. During a special meeting with the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) cabinet in Muzaffarabad, the Prime Minister emphasized that the Jammu and Kashmir issue is an internationally recognized dispute and India cannot override it through its tactics.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the meeting saw the Prime Minister and the AJK cabinet discussing the recent developments following the Indian Supreme Court’s endorsement of India’s illegal and unilateral actions regarding the status of Jammu and Kashmir. The AJK Prime Minister lauded Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar for winning the hearts of Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control with his stance.
The AJK cabinet members expressed a renewed sense of hope stemming from PM Kakar’s courageous stand on the Kashmir issue. In his address, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar pledged to resolve the financial problems of AJK and promised federal government support for key infrastructure projects, including the Shounter Tunnel, Murree-Muzaffarabad Expressway, and Mansehra-Muzaffarabad-Mangla-Mirpur Expressway. He also emphasized the potential of exploiting the tourism opportunities in AJK.
During his interaction with students from various colleges and universities in AJK, PM Kakar reiterated Pakistan’s principled position on the Kashmir dispute. He stated that Pakistan’s pursuit of peace should not be misconstrued as weakness, emphasizing the country’s readiness to face any aggression.
Responding to a question about the possibility of merging AJK with Pakistan, the Prime Minister strongly dismissed such rumors, asserting Pakistan’s longstanding journey with Kashmiris backed by significant sacrifices. He underlined that Pakistan has fought three wars with India over Kashmir and remains prepared for any eventuality.
Regarding the suggestion of a corridor between AJK and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), PM Kakar noted the current restrictions faced by Kashmiris in IIOJK and stated that such free movement would only be possible after a final settlement of the Kashmir issue. He stressed that the only solution is a plebiscite in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions.
The Prime Minister’s visit included consultations with AJK parliamentarians and Hurriyat leaders, focusing on strategies to effectively project the Kashmir issue internationally.
