Muzaffarabad, Pakistan Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has emphasized the need for a permanent solution to the Kashmir dispute, aligning with the United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
According to Kashmir Media Service, during a meeting with a delegation of Hurriyat leaders from Jammu and Kashmir, PM Kakar expressed Pakistan’s firm rejection of the Indian Supreme Court’s decision regarding the status of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The Hurriyat leaders thanked the Prime Minister for his stance and for representing the Kashmiris’ sentiments during his address at the special session of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
PM Kakar assured that Pakistan would continue to offer political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people. He stressed that the Jammu and Kashmir issue is an internationally recognized dispute and an unfinished agenda of the United Nations Security Council for over seven decades. He insisted that any resolution must respect the UN resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people, highlighting that India cannot override its international obligations with internal legislation and court decisions.
The Prime Minister outlined plans for the Foreign Ministry and Pakistani missions abroad to intensify their engagement with international think tanks, media, and academia to elevate the Kashmir issue on a global platform. A strategy is to be developed to present the Kashmir case effectively in key global capitals like Washington DC, London, and Brussels.
Kakar announced an upcoming meeting between the Foreign Ministry and Hurriyat leaders to discuss proposals for strengthening the Kashmir cause. He also emphasized the crucial role overseas Kashmiris can play in this regard.
The meeting was attended by various Hurriyat leaders, including Mehmood Ahmad Saghar, Ghulam Muhammad Safi, Syed Faiz Naqashbandi, and others, along with the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister, Chaudhry Anwaarul Haq.
