Pakistan PM Affirms Continued Support for Kashmiris’ Right to Self-Determination

Islamabad, On the occasion of Self-Determination Day, Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has reiterated the nation’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri people’s struggle for self-determination, as recognized by the United Nations Security Council resolutions.

According to Kashmir Media Service, PM Kakar, in his statement, acknowledged the 75th anniversary of the resolution adopted by the United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan (UNCIP). This resolution mandates that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute be resolved through a free and impartial plebiscite under UN supervision, a testament to the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination as per international law and human rights doctrines.

Despite over 75 years since its adoption, PM Kakar expressed regret that the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have been unable to exercise their fundamental right due to ongoing oppression by India. He highlighted India’s efforts since August 5, 2019, aimed at altering IIOJK’s demographic structure and political landscape, effectively disenfranchising the Kashmiri people.

He criticized the Indian Supreme Court’s recent verdict on the status of IIOJK as another step in denying Kashmiris their right to self-determination. Kakar condemned the use of domestic legislation and judicial decisions to undermine the Kashmiri people’s legitimate aspirations.

The Prime Minister drew attention to the annual adoption of the resolution on “Universal Realization of the Right of the People to Self-Determination” by the United Nations General Assembly. This resolution calls global attention to the plight of people under forced occupation.

He asserted the international community’s, particularly the United Nations’, responsibility to ensure the realization of IIOJK people’s right to self-determination. PM Kakar’s statement underscores Pakistan’s commitment to extending moral, political, and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people’s just struggle.
