Pakistan Pledges to Defend Sovereignty Amid Indian Tensions, PM Affirms

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity following recent statements from Indian leaders. In a phone call with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, Sharif emphasized the importance of regional peace, citing Pakistan’s adherence to a ceasefire agreement with India.

The conversation, described as warm and cordial, saw the Prime Minister express gratitude to President Aliyev for his support during South Asia’s recent crisis. Sharif highlighted the bond between the two nations and Azerbaijan’s solidarity with Pakistan.

Sharif also pointed out the Jammu and Kashmir dispute as a core issue causing instability in South Asia, stressing the need for resolution in line with UN Security Council resolutions. He thanked Azerbaijan for its support on this matter.

The Prime Minister discussed the robust relationship between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, underscoring plans to transform this into a beneficial economic partnership. He noted ongoing efforts to finalize Azerbaijani investments in Pakistan, valued at two billion dollars.

The invitation extended to President Aliyev for an official visit to Pakistan was accepted, reflecting the commitment to strengthening ties. Aliyev congratulated Sharif on Pakistan’s achievements and welcomed the ceasefire understanding, reaffirming Azerbaijan’s dedication to its relationship with Pakistan.
