Pakistan Plans to Transform Transport Corridors into Economic Hubs


Islamabad: A high-level consultative session, chaired by Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal, was held to discuss strategies for converting Pakistan’s transport corridors into economic zones to drive industrial growth and regional integration.



According to Press Information Department, the session focused on utilizing existing transport infrastructure to spur broader economic growth. Professor Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the importance of integrating transportation networks with industrial and commercial activities, stating that these corridors should become the lifelines of the economy, facilitating trade, investment, and regional collaboration.



He further stressed the need for comprehensive business plans and feasibility studies to develop industrial hubs and attract both domestic and international investments. Discussions also centered on the potential for tourism and agri-processing industries, as well as the importance of vocational training to equip the workforce with the skills needed for emerging industries.



The minister highlighted Pakistan’s strategic location, calling for enhanced regional integration with neighboring countries to unlock economic potential and strengthen trade relations. He concluded by urging for a collaborative effort between the federal and provincial governments, private sector, and international stakeholders to transform transport corridors into dynamic economic zones.
