Islamabad: Today, Pakistan is observing a national mourning day to express solidarity with Palestinians and to condemn the ongoing violence in the region. This comes in response to recent events and escalating tensions involving Israel.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the decision for the mourning day was made during a consultative meeting of government-allied parties, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad. The meeting was called to address the deteriorating situation in Palestine and resulted in several key decisions, including the offering of funeral prayers in absentia for Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was recently killed in Tehran.
The meeting also concluded with plans to present a resolution in Parliament to officially state Pakistan’s solidarity with the Palestinian people. The participants condemned the ongoing actions by Israeli forces, which have been described as brutalities. They called on the international community and organizations like the United Nations to intervene and halt what they termed as genocide being perpetrated by Zionist forces.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed concern over the international community’s silence on these issues, labeling it as grave and condemning the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh as a violation of international resolutions and declarations of genocide by the International Court of Justice. He highlighted the challenge the modern world faces in preventing these actions and acknowledged the countries that have spoken out against the oppression in Gaza.
