Islamabad: The Government and people of Pakistan marked ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day’ to express their support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their pursuit of self-determination. This annual observance underscores Pakistan’s commitment to backing the Kashmiri cause.
According to a statement by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan’s President, Prime Minister, and Foreign Minister have reiterated their moral, diplomatic, and political support for Kashmir. In their special messages, they reaffirmed their solidarity with the Kashmiri people.
The Foreign Minister has reached out to key international figures, including the Presidents of the UN Security Council and General Assembly, the UN Secretary General, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the OIC Secretary General. The letters stressed the importance of implementing Security Council resolutions to enable a plebiscite in the region. The appeal also called for improved human rights conditions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and the release of political prisoners and dissenters.
Ahead of the observance, a briefing was held for diplomats in Islamabad to update them on the situation in IIOJK.
Today’s events included a ‘Solidarity Day Walk’ from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Parliament Building, led by various government ministers. Participants included ministry staff, school children, and citizens.
Throughout Pakistan and at its diplomatic missions worldwide, activities such as seminars, webinars, panel discussions, and photo exhibitions are being held. These initiatives aim to express solidarity with Kashmiris, highlight human rights issues in IIOJK, and address concerns over India’s policies in the region.
