Pakistan Observes Kashmir Solidarity Day, Reaffirms Support for Kashmiri Self-Determination

Islamabad, Pakistan marked ‘Kashmir Solidarity Day’ on Monday, a day dedicated to expressing solidarity with the Kashmiri people in their pursuit of self-determination. The observance included a series of activities across the nation and at Pakistani diplomatic missions worldwide, emphasizing Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmir cause.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the President, Prime Minister, and Foreign Minister of Pakistan conveyed special messages on the occasion, reiterating the country’s moral, diplomatic, and political backing for the Kashmiri struggle. Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani played a key role in the international advocacy for Kashmir by addressing letters to the Presidents of the UN Security Council and General Assembly, the UN Secretary-General, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the OIC Secretary-General. In these correspondences, he highlighted the necessity of implementing Security Council resolutions to enable the Kashmiris to decide their future through a UN-supervised plebiscite. He also called for improved human rights conditions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and the release of Kashmiri political prisoners and dissenters.

Ahead of Kashmir Solidarity Day, the government organized a briefing for diplomats based in Islamabad to update them on the situation in IIOJK. A ‘Solidarity Day Walk’ was held along Constitution Avenue in Islamabad, led by the Ministers for Information, Privatization, Culture, and Religious Affairs, culminating at the Parliament Building.

The day also featured a variety of events, including seminars, webinars, panel discussions, and photo exhibitions. These activities were designed not only to express solidarity with the Kashmiri people but also to bring international attention to the ongoing human rights abuses in IIOJK and the severe consequences of India’s policies that aim to disenfranchise the Kashmiri population in their own land.

Kashmir Solidarity Day serves as a reminder of Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the Kashmiri people and highlighting their plight on global platforms.
