Baku: At the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) held a panel discussion focused on the “Exacerbation of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) Issues in Women & Adolescent Girls Due to the Climate Crisis.” This session, hosted at the Pakistan Pavilion, gathered global experts to discuss how climate impacts are intensifying challenges for vulnerable communities.
According to Press Information Department, the session featured a keynote address by NDMA Chairman Lt General Inam Haider Malik. He discussed potential policy frameworks and interventions needed to tackle these critical issues. Emphasizing the importance of innovative and locally-led solutions, Malik called for global collaborations to develop scalable solutions to combat GBV and improve SRH outcomes during climate emergencies.
The panelists examined strategies to enhance resilience and prioritize gender-sensitive approaches to disaster response. The session concluded with a commitment from both government and humanitarian organizations to incorporate SRH and GBV response mechanisms into climate disaster planning. NDMA’s participation at COP29 highlights Pakistan’s dedication to addressing climate change and strengthening resilience through international cooperation and support.
