Pakistan Navy Strengthens Fleet with Commissioning of PNS HUNAIN in Romania

Islamabad: The Pakistan Navy has officially commissioned the PNS HUNAIN, an Offshore Patrol Vessel, at Constanta Port, Romania, enhancing its operational capabilities in maritime security. The ceremony, attended by notable military dignitaries from Pakistan and Romania, marked a significant milestone in Pakistan Navy’s fleet expansion efforts.

According to Pakistan Navy announcement issued on 26 July 2024, the event was graced by Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Naval Staff, along with the Chief of the Defence Staff of Romania, General Gheorghita Vlad, and Chief of the Romanian Navy, Vice Admiral Mihai Panait. During his address, Admiral Ashraf highlighted the strategic importance of the PNS HUNAIN to the navy’s operational readiness, especially for Regional Maritime Security Patrols in the Indian Ocean Region. He lauded the collaboration with DAMEN Shipyard, which was pivotal in integrating advanced technologies and weaponry into the newly commissioned vessel.

PNS HUNAIN is equipped with modern electronic warfare systems, anti-ship and anti-air capabilities, and can operate both independently and as part of a task force. It is also designed to embark a multirole helicopter, further bolstering its utility in diverse maritime missions. The commissioning of PNS HUNAIN is part of Pakistan Navy’s ongoing efforts to enhance its maritime defense and security capabilities.
