Pakistan Navy Ship SAIF Strengthens Ties with Maldives During Port Visit


MALE: Pakistan Navy Ship SAIF recently docked at the Port of Male as part of its overseas deployment, fostering strengthened relations between Pakistan and the Maldives. The ship was welcomed by Maldivian authorities upon arrival, marking a significant moment in the ongoing cooperation between the two nations.



During the visit, Commodore Muhammad Zeshan Nabi Sheikh, the Mission Commander, engaged in discussions with the Maldivian military leadership. Key meetings included those with Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, Chief of Defence Force, and Brigadier General Mohamed Saleem, Commandant of the Maldives Coast Guard. Additionally, Commodore Sheikh visited the High Commission of Pakistan, meeting with Vice Admiral (R) Faisal Rasul Lodhi, the High Commissioner. These interactions focused on mutual interests, naval engagements, and maritime security cooperation.



The ship’s visit also saw engagement from government officials, ambassadors, and members of the diplomatic community, who boarded PNS SAIF. The ship was opened to visitors, attracting members of the Pakistani community residing in the Maldives.



Concluding the port visit, PNS SAIF participated in a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) alongside Maldives Coast Guard vessels. This exercise aimed at enhancing defense cooperation and operational relations between the naval forces of the two countries.



The regular visits of Pakistan Navy ships to the Maldives underscore the robust bilateral relations and are expected to further enhance interoperability between the naval forces of both countries.
