Islamabad: The Pakistan Navy commemorated Defense and Martyrs Day with solemn remembrances and ceremonies, honoring the sacrifices of the Armed Forces during the 1965 Indo-Pak War. The day is dedicated to remembering the Shuhada and Ghazis—heroes who demonstrated exceptional unity and bravery in defending the nation.
According to Pakistan Navy, Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, delivered a message highlighting the valor and strategic acumen of naval forces during the 1965 conflict, praising their meticulous planning and fearless actions that played a crucial role in safeguarding the country’s maritime borders. Admiral Ashraf emphasized the Navy’s ongoing vigilance and commitment to securing Pakistan’s vital sea routes, essential for the nation’s economic well-being.
The observance began with special prayers at naval mosques across the country, praying for the nation’s integrity and sovereignty. Quran Khawanis were also conducted to honor the martyrs of the 1965 war. Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ovais Ahmed Bilgrami, participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Shuhada’s Monument at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad, where he offered Fateha and engaged with the families of the martyrs.
Additional ceremonies, including wreath laying and Fateha Khawani, took place at various Field Command Headquarters. Flag hoisting ceremonies were held at all naval units and establishments, with Commanding Officers addressing gatherings to discuss the significance of the day. In line with naval tradition, ships and establishments were adorned and illuminated, reflecting the solemnity and pride associated with the day.
