Islamabad: The Standing Committee on Interior convened its ninth meeting to discuss the Prevention of Electronic Crime (Amendment) Bill, 2025, under the leadership of Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz. The bill aims to update Pakistan’s legislative approach to cybercrime, reflecting the increasing complexities and threats in the digital space. The committee recommended the bill’s passage by the National Assembly.
According to a statement by National Assembly of Pakistan, the Special Secretary of the Ministry of Interior presented the bill during the meeting, highlighting the need for a modernized legislative framework to combat cybercrime. The Ministry of Law and Justice emphasized that the bill seeks to protect citizens, institutions, and the economy from digital threats while promoting a secure digital environment.
The meeting saw participation from several Members of the National Assembly, including Tariq Fazal Chaudhary, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, and others, as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Law and Justice. The committee members discussed the bill comprehensively before agreeing to recommend it for assembly approval.
