Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum Opens Doors to Global Investors

Islamabad: A two-day Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum commenced at the Jinnah Convention Center in Islamabad, with Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar emphasizing the nation’s potential in the global mining industry. Dar highlighted Pakistan’s strategic position and substantial geological reserves, including the monumental Reko Diq and resources of rare earth elements and gemstones like peridote and emerald.

He pointed out that Pakistan’s untapped mineral wealth holds the potential to reshape global supply chains and attract foreign investment. The government, he noted, is prioritizing the mining sector through policy reforms to create a thriving ecosystem for stakeholders.

Commerce Minister Jam Kamal, participating in a discussion session, underscored Pakistan’s appeal as a prime investment destination in the mineral sector. He expressed confidence in the resources’ ability to draw significant local and foreign interest.

Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik remarked on Pakistan’s economic stability under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership. He cited a surplus in the current account balance and a notable decrease in inflation. Malik also highlighted the government’s efforts in streamlining fiscal and legal frameworks to boost mineral sector investments.

Mark Bristow, CEO of Barrick Gold, spoke about the Reko Diq copper-gold project, predicting its role as a significant player in the global mining arena. He shared that production is slated for 2028, aiming for substantial copper and gold output.

The forum aims to provide a collaborative platform for stakeholders and partners to explore opportunities and forge beneficial partnerships in the mining sector.
