Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that Pakistan is actively engaging in diplomatic efforts to facilitate peace between the United States and Iran. This development was revealed during a federal cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister in Islamabad.
According to Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Sharif informed the cabinet about Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives that paved the way for discussions between the US and Iran in Islamabad. He highlighted the significant roles played by Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, as well as Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar. The Prime Minister also referred to the recent visit of Iran’s Foreign Minister to Pakistan as part of these efforts.
Sharif addressed the economic trajectory of the country, noting that Pakistan is moving towards growth after attaining macroeconomic stability. He acknowledged, however, that the conflict between the US and Iran has affected these efforts over the past two years. He stressed the importance of unity and determination in overcoming challenges.
The Prime Minister commented on ongoing austerity measures, noting a decrease in fuel consumption compared to previous weeks. He expressed satisfaction with the current availability and supply of petroleum products. Additionally, he mentioned the continuation of subsidies provided by provincial governments to support the public.
Sharif also disclosed that Pakistan has repaid a bilateral loan of $3.50 billion and expressed satisfaction that foreign exchange reserves remain stable. He conveyed gratitude to Saudi Arabia for its support in this regard.
