Islamabad, On May 17th, Pakistan joined the global community in observing World Halal Standards Day, an event dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of Halal consumption and its compliance with Islamic commandments. The day underscores efforts to facilitate the availability and production of Halal products, which are believed to bring divine blessings (Barakah).
According to Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority, the national body has been proactive in adopting and discussing standards set by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and its Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC). To date, PSQCA has adopted nine OIC/SMIIC standards and is currently deliberating on 19 additional standards tailored to meet Pakistan’s national needs, rules, and regulations.
PSQCA has played a pivotal role in the initial phases of Halal standardization, which is crucial for trade facilitation and supporting the Halal product manufacturing industry and Halal conformity assessment bodies. These standards are essential for the development of trade and business within the Halal sector, spanning various industries including food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and tourism.
The observance of World Halal Standards Day also highlights Pakistan’s comprehensive standards for the Halal non-food sector, which covers pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, Ayurvedic and biochemic products, cosmetics and personal care products, Halal tourism, conformity assessment services, and supply chain management.
This initiative not only promotes the importance of Halal compliance in enhancing business and trade but also aims to ensure that products meet both religious and quality standards, thereby reinforcing Pakistan’s commitment to fostering a robust Halal industry.
