Pakistan Marks Progress in Flood Recovery at International Meeting in Islamabad


Islamabad, Nearly two years after the devastating floods of 2022, Pakistan’s efforts to rebuild and strengthen its resilience were central themes at the 4th meeting of the International Partners Support Group (IPSG) held in Islamabad. The session, chaired by the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Mr. Ahad Khan Cheema, aimed to review progress and align ongoing recovery projects with future needs.



According to Press Information Department, the meeting brought together a wide array of participants, including Ms. Romina Khurshid, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, along with senior officials from various Pakistani ministries and representatives from multiple countries and international organizations like the World Bank, UNDP, and IMF. The gathering underscored the global collaborative efforts in supporting Pakistan post the catastrophic floods.



Mr. Cheema expressed gratitude for the international support which has been crucial in Pakistan’s recovery and ongoing efforts to build a climate-resilient infrastructure. He highlighted the critical role of energy and infrastructure in the nation’s recovery strategy and appreciated the substantial financial commitments made by international partners. The meeting reviewed the execution of the Resilient Recovery, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction Framework (4RF), which has been a pivotal element in coordinating the recovery process.



Development partners praised the IPSG’s effectiveness in maintaining focus on reconstruction and rehabilitation while discussing strategic approaches to ensure fiscal stability and economic growth. Updates on post-flood activities were provided by entities such as the World Bank and UNDP, with a notable mention of the substantial funds already disbursed by the international community.



The meeting concluded with a reaffirmed commitment to transparency and cooperation in continuing recovery efforts, ensuring that the momentum in rebuilding and resilience initiatives is sustained.
