Pakistan Maritime Sector Attracts Saudi Investment Opportunities


Islamabad: Pakistan’s maritime sector presents significant investment opportunities for Saudi investors, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry stated on Wednesday. The minister emphasized the country’s strategic location and expanding trade connectivity as key factors during an online meeting with Mansour Bin Mohammed Al Saud, Chairman of the Pakistan-Saudi Arabia Joint Business Council, and other attendees.



According to Press Information Department, Chaudhry highlighted the investment potential in ports, logistics, blue economy initiatives, and supporting infrastructure. He noted potential collaborations in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and Pakistan’s development aims, emphasizing the growing partnership between the two nations. The virtual meeting included chairmen of major ports, executives from the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC), the Korangi Fish Harbour Authority (KoFHA), the Special Investment Facilitation Council, and Pakistan’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia.



Discussions centered on investment opportunities at Karachi Port, Port Qasim, Gwadar Port, PNSC, and KoFHA. Chaudhry invited Saudi investors to explore opportunities in the proposed maritime business district, marine workshop project, and a drydock and floating dock facility at Manora under the Karachi Port Trust (KPT). He also mentioned Port Qasim’s prospects for a multipurpose cargo terminal and an energy city project.



Further, Chaudhry encouraged Saudi investment in expanding the PNSC fleet and establishing a 100-acre Aqua Research and Technology Park at KoFHA. During the briefing, Karachi Port Trust Chairman Rear Admiral (Retd) Shahid Ahmed spoke of the maritime business district project at KPT, while Port Qasim Authority Chairman Rear Admiral (Retd) Syed Moazzam Ilyas discussed plans for an integrated second oil terminal and storage farm.
