Pakistan Maintains Stance Against Expansion of Permanent Seats on UN Security Council

Islamabad, Pakistan has reiterated its stance against the addition of new permanent members to the United Nations Security Council, highlighting concerns that such a move would undermine the representation of smaller states.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during the Inter-Governmental Negotiations at the United Nations in New York, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Munir Akram voiced that principles of inclusivity, equity, and consensus should be fundamental to the reform process. He affirmed Pakistan’s support for the Uniting for Consensus proposal, which advocates for increasing only non-permanent seats on the Council.
