Islamabad, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced a comprehensive nationwide campaign to combat the rampant theft of electricity and gas, underlining the government’s resolve to ensure the integrity of essential utilities. During a key meeting in Islamabad, Naqvi tasked the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) with leading this initiative, setting up specialized teams to address the widespread issue.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the meeting also covered discussions on a recent maritime tragedy in Greece and evaluated the positive impact of the government’s crackdown on illegal financial transactions, such as “Hundi” and “Hawala,” on the nation’s currency. The minister issued strict orders for legal action against individuals involved in utility theft, human trafficking, and illicit financial activities.
In a statement made on the social media platform X, Naqvi emphasized the campaign’s impartial nature, assuring that all guilty parties would be prosecuted without discrimination. This operation is part of a broader effort to ensure fair and widespread access to electricity and gas, by eliminating illegal practices that undermine public resources.
The government’s directive highlights a firm commitment to law enforcement and the protection of public utilities, signaling a significant step towards enhancing the energy sector’s security and efficiency in Pakistan.
